Photos of the Living Room

Looking towards the dining room/library.  Most of what you see in this room was left after they moved out and we had to remove it ourselves.  Dark walls, dark carpet, dark furniture - notice a pattern here?

Corner of the living room, showing the curtains and their entertainment center.

Looking towards the front door, with the door to the wood storage area open. This was taken during full daylight and probably using a flash.  Imagine it at night, without too much in the way of lighting!

Lovely ceiling, huh?  Some of it was cut away later on, but it's still crummy looking, even after being painted.

Yep, this couch and loveseat were also left.  They eventually made their way to the dump.  Minimum $15 a load, so hauling stuff out of here won't be cheap.

View from the living room, looking out towards the front yard.  As you can see, more stuff that was left in the house is visible.

Here the walls are painted (looking towards the front door) with primer.  This is how we viewed TV while working in the living room.

And now the living room is all done!  The plants are on the teak cabinet. There's still some work to do in here, but it's almost all done.  Yea!

Jack has discovered how cozy the chair and footstool from Ikea are.  Note the small zebra side table next to the chair.  Pretty cool, huh?

And here's the teak cabinet after I got tired of the plants being walked over all the time by the cats.  Yes, Jack (another orange tabby) has only one eye, therefore his full name of One Eyed Jack.

Naturally this photo is to show you the prints put up on the wall behind the wood burning stove, and not a photo of Guy on top of one of the cat perches.  Guy has had a very hard life before I adopted him and he deserves some spoiling.  He's also arthritic and diabetic.  But he's still a great snuggly lap cat.

I would be amiss if I didn't show off the nice wood flooring in the living room.  The cat toys are an extra bonus.

Yep, all of this took me several days to do - sorting of the CDs and putting up of the prints.  I do enjoy seeing them all out and together, though.

Another view of the teak cabinet, this time with Mandy (my calico) on it.

These are the two custom built cat perches.  I always wanted a spiral staircase - now I have them, just for the cats and not for me, though. Boris is trying to get a little bit of sunshine, down at the bottom, while Guy is snoozing away on the top.  The sign between the two perches says "Cat Crossing", as does the yellow plastic crossing sign to the left.

I shuffled around a few of the prints and had Dirk put up these two wall cabinets from Ikea.  They have glass doors, which slide from side to side.  I then proceeded to wad them full of mini animal figurines from North Light.  I'm not much of a dog collector, but I love their mini dogs.  I got the stuffed Raccoons years ago from a gal that hand made them.  I wish I knew where she got those patterns from.

These two shelves are filled with equines, cats and other critters, such as penguins, elephants, pigs and otters.

These two shelves are filled entirely with their mini dog figurines.  Yes, the dogs in the lower right are doing the wild thing!

Update - we now have new windows in the entire house, including the living room.  Previously, we couldn't open the windows or even clean them as we were afraid they would fall apart - they were in that bad of shape.  More on the windows in another section.
